MEET THE GROUP

MIKE WEBER

Mike Weber grew up surrounded by musicians and vocal students. The house was always full of sound and the process of learning. As he observed his family's passion for music, Mike's own interest started to grow. However, it wasn't until he was asked to fill in for a tenor in Nikki Weber’s jazz choir, the “Mellowtones”, that his musical journey truly began. And the rest is history!

Sh-Boom, an offshoot of the Mellowtones, became an avenue for Mike to express his musical side and have fun creating music with friends. Mike has not quit his day job. Balancing his passion for music with his professional career, Mike continues to find joy and fulfillment in both worlds.

COLIN MAILEY

From his early days in Grade 5 with his Elementary School choir in San Diego, Colin has been passionate about singing. He has been singing with Nicki for approximately 27 years and was an original member of Sh-Boom. Even before the formation of Sh-Boom, Colin was part of Nikki's "Mellow Tones" singing group. Throughout his life, Colin has actively participated in the performing arts, engaging in various choirs, musical groups, musical theatre productions, and square dancing. In the future, Colin aspires to learn ballroom dancing with his wife Susan. Apart from music, Colin finds joy in tinkering with mechanical items like vintage cars, player pianos, and clocks.

PATRICE POLLACK

Patrice has been singing harmony since she was a young girl in Toronto, lying on the floor, head between her parents’ high fi and stereo cabinets singing along to Harry Belafonte. Since re-locating to the Sunshine Coast in 1991, Patrice performed with the After Hours vocal quartet for a decade and after almost 20 years, is currently singing with Definitely Diva. She has directed and performed with the women’s vocal group Hot Java since 2017, writing many of the group’s arrangements. Patrice has always been a percussion fanatic, banging on every surface, until finally in 2004, she acquired a set of congas and discovered her love of Latin rhythms. Now, retired, she can truly appreciate the words of Todd Rundgren, “I don’t want to work, I want to bang on the drum all day”.

BRIAN HARBISON

According to the recently late, eternally great Bessie May King ( Brians Mother ) ; Brian was born singing, He sang for fun ; to impress the girls ; and frequently for his supper in Choirs, Studios,TV, Radio, Stage, Cruise Ships and Clubs. After a hiatus from singing, Brian came to the Sunshine Coast, in the 80s. Here he met Nikki Weber, who inspired a return to music, filling a hole in his soul, making a soul that is whole.

Brian has been one of the usual ; arguably unusual suspects populating the Coast music scene in Musical Theatre, Choirs, various ensembles, as well as Rockin’ with the best of ‘em Elphie’s, The Wakefield, Gilligan’s, Cedars ( remember them? ), the Legions, weddings and parties.

Brians fondest memories are in the years spent with the vocal quartet : “After Hours”. All of this has lead to the coveted inclusion in the electric group : “SH-BOOM”!
